Property owners are responsible for containing snow on their property. Per City Ordinance 26-34, it is illegal to deposit snow from your property onto any city street or to push the snow across city streets and deposit it onto public or private property.
Snow deposited or left on roadways creates a real hazard to passing motorists which can cause serious accidents. Even heavy snowplows have been damaged when hitting compacted and frozen snow so deposited on the roadways. Because the practice is illegal to begin with, the person depositing the snow, as the prime cause of the accident, may also find him/herself faced with civil liability lawsuits.
We urge you, as good neighbors and motorists yourselves, not to add to the hazards of wintertime driving in this way.
